I always look forward to the fashion knitwear show, you never know what to expect. The designs are often an array of clever techniques and well cut garments. I look forward to a mix of men’s and women’s wear fashions, both creative and inspiring.
Structure and knitwear are key to the Fully Fashioned show this year with an impressive collection by Bethan Juliff who worked strong colours with accentuated shapes and expert techniques to create an artistic catwalk show.
Kate Hodgson displayed a bizarre mix of granny knits and eclectic sportswear - a captivating combination of fabrics and colours with a surprising appeal, this concept stood out with originality. Hannah Risdon’s take on vintage was beautiful using a distinct mixture of colours in modern design. Sunny Sang’s attention to detail and use of neutral tones built a very strong collection, one I would like to put my name down for with haste.
This years Fully Fashioned displayed a collective of metallics, used in unique ways to create extremely sexy designs. From ghetto jumpsuits to shimmering pencil skirt knits eager to show some leg. This is a trend we won’t see the back of soon.
Frills have staged a few different looks this year on the catwalk, full of volume and tiered they take to the sleeves, behinds, legs and necks. It was hard to ignore Gemma Plonczyk’s collection which took on elements of ruching, ribbing, and gathering, this collection had it all; taking on a neutral colour palette the attention to frill detail gave this collection huge impact.
At this years Fully Fashioned there were many aspects of the neutral colour palette which really has taken to the stage. Combined with interesting structures and well cut designs which adorned the catwalk. Elements of colour this year included crayola blue and rich maroon, which has been brought back to life with knitwear.
The lack of menswear collections was slightly disappointing with menswear playing such a huge part in this dynamic industry. But my disappointment was shattered when Martha Glazzards designs took to the stage. I had experienced this fabulous array of prints, colours and styles at Graduate Fashion Week and was pleased to see it again. A self proclaimed fan of John Smedley, I thoroughly enjoyed the all in one thermal suits, leg-warmers, pantaloons, cardis and waistcoats. Her choice of colour, stripe, busy print and combination of garment styles was truly inspiring.
Overall, an interesting show; an array of different styles, colours and concepts. Good luck in the future everyone. (Applause).
